    Antech Diagnostics, the largest exclusively commercial veterinary diagnostic laboratory in the nation, is in search of a Histology Technician working out of our Lake Success, New York laboratory and reporting directly to the Histology Supervisor.

     

    Full Time : Tuesday - Saturday with Rotating Mondays (Ovenight Shift)

     

    As part of the VCA Family, which operates the largest network of freestanding, full-service animal hospitals in the nation, Antech Diagnostics delivers state of the art testing and consulting services to practicing veterinarians.  Our diagnostic spectrum of tests in the areas of chemistry, pathology, endocrinology, serology, hematology, and microbiology enhance veterinarians’ ability to detect, diagnose, evaluate and prevent disease and other conditions affecting animals.

    Responsibilities

    Embed:

    • Provide quality embedding per SOP and accepted protocols
    • Unloading VIP Tissue Processer
    • Scan barcoded cassette in LIS for the appropriate worklist.
    • Embed block per SOP / Protocol prioritizing stat and manifest blocks
    • Release block in LIS
    • Maintain embedding station as required

     

    Microtomy- standard blocks:

    • Provide quality microtomy per SOP and accepted protocols
    • Scan barcoded cassette  in LIS for the appropriate worklist
    • Effectively section paraffin embedded tissue block to micrometer thickness, float section on a water bath and mount section on a frosted end slide per SOP. Prioritize  stat and manifest blocks
    • Print and adhere slide label to frosted end of slide and place in staining basket. Do not batch print and label.
    • Release block in LIS
    • Place staining basket into oven
    • Reconcile all Antrim pending list for any work completed.

    Special Stains:

    • Operate Roche Benchmark special stain instrument
    • Cut patient and control tissue for all stains
    • Build special stain blocks to loads after the stain is completed
    • Perform manual stains as required
    • Reconcile special stain pending list daily
    • Maintain all related equipment per Maintenance logs
    • Reconcile applicable pending lists

    Qualifications

    • BS/BA Degree required, completed courses in anatomy, physiology, biology and/or chemistry.
    • HT(ASCP)/HTL(ASCP) or course work in accredited Histology Technician program strongly preferred.
    • A strong science background
    • Practical and/or educational lab experience.
    • Familiar with care and use of microtome, embedding stations and staining equipment
    • Is detail-oriented and accurate
    • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Possesses good computer skills.
    • Is organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
