    Antech Diagnostics, the largest exclusively commercial veterinary diagnostic laboratory in the nation, is in search of a Buyer to Work in our Purchasing Department working out of our Lake Success laboratory and reporting directly to the Purchasing Director.


    As part of the VCA Family, which operates the largest network of freestanding, full-service animal hospitals in the nation, Antech Diagnostics delivers state of the art testing and consulting services to practicing veterinarians.  Our diagnostic spectrum of tests in the areas of chemistry, pathology, endocrinology, serology, hematology, and microbiology enhance veterinarians’ ability to detect, diagnose, evaluate and prevent disease and other conditions affecting animals.


    Purchase all non-capital materials and supplies in support of assigned laboratory locations.

    • Assist labs, as required, with entering their requirements into IOS; instruct new lab personnel in IOS purchase entry.
    • Review the labs’ pending requirements to assure correct supplier, pricing, and quantity for that lab, based upon historical ordering patterns. Pricing should be checked for  accuracy against recent supplier agreements or pricing updates.
    • Responsible for achieving best pricing and delivery.
    • Send purchase order (PO) to supplier in timely fashion, in all cases requesting their order confirmation. All pending orders to be submitted to suppliers within two business days.
    • Ensure receipt of supplier confirmation for all PO’s. Responsible for resolving any supplier issues pertaining to pricing or delivery, based upon supplier’s confirmation.   Issues should be resolved prior to shipment of product.
    • Responsible for keeping labs informed of any deviations to their stated requirements.
    • Responsible for supplier follow-up of any past due orders and communication of updated delivery information to the labs.
    • Responsible for resolving any invoice issues as presented by Antech Accounting, in a timely fashion. Responsible for documenting that resolution in IOS Accounts Payable database.


    Ensure that any changes in documented pricing are presented to Purchasing Director with backup justification for the change.


    Help ensure that IOS data integrity is kept intact.  Only items that labs truly require will be kept active for that lab.  Buyer will ensure that all items ordered on an on-going basis will be set up in IOS with a unique inventory number, and request new set up of such items from the Purchasing Director, supplying information on all of the required fields for set up, such as Inventory Description, Vendor #, Manufacturer, Mfg. #, UOM, UOM conversion factor, Classification, price, lead time, location(s) requiring the item, etc.   At least two suppliers’ bids should accompany an add request for all non-proprietary items.


    Assist labs with any purchasing-related issues they have in a timely and courteous manner.


    Ensure proper and timely filing/storage of PO and confirmation paperwork, as required by Antech Management.


    • Two year post high school degree or certification in purchasing, such as CPP; or
    • Min (1) one year purchasing experience, as a clerk/expeditor or buyer
    • Excellent communications skills - verbal and written
    • Highly organized
    • Intermediate level of knowledge in Word and Excel
    • Positive attitude/customer service skills
    • Excellent work ethic
