The Academy of Veterinary Imaging is the leading provider in veterinary ultrasound technique and diagnostic education in the US.   The Lab Technician’s role is to ensure the safety and comfort of the animals prior to, during and after the hands-on training sessions.  They will be responsible for assisting the sedating Veterinarian during the ultrasound scanning of animals.

• Assist sedating veterinarian with medications for lab as defined in USDA/IAUCUC protocol
• Assist sedating veterinarian while performing physical exams and administering medications to animals
• Under the direction of the sedating veterinarian, monitor animals’ vital signs (Heart Rate, Respiration, Body Temperature, Blood Pressure, SP02) and response to medications
• Assist under direct supervision of sedating veterinarian in the event of medical emergency or other acute illness
• Assist the sedating veterinarian in administering reversal medication and fluids as directed
• Maintain proper and legal documentation pertaining to animal medical records as defined by the TVMBE
• Maintain clean laboratory teaching space
• Prep animals and lab room for upcoming lab
• Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials
• Keep laundry clean and folded
• Provide basic animal care i.e., walking, provide water, provide food, clean cages, and bedding
• Keep the lab supplies stocked (needles, syringes, ultrasound gel, isopropyl alcohol)
• Post laboratory clean up
• Assist with animal transport as needed
• Provide a strong customer experience through the thoughtful and professional care of the animals and educational facility

Work Experience Requirements

• 1-2 years of work experience in a veterinary clinic or lab setting is required
  
• Strong understanding of general animal care and animal behavior
  
• Solid understanding of general veterinary practices and procedures
  
• Effective verbal, listening and communication skills
  
• Service oriented attitude
  
• Able to follow instructions
  
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  
• Ability to maintain a neat professional appearance and demeanor
  
• Proven reliability through punctual attendance

Education Requirement

• Licensed as veterinary technician, associate’s degree in related field is a plus

Physical Requirements

• Predominantly standing and/or walking (75%)
  
• Lifting up to 60 lbs., pushing/pulling up to 30 lbs. and bending or kneeling for cleaning purposes
  
• Occasional local travel to assist with transportation of animals
  
• Must not be allergic to animals or have concerns with animals
  
• Must work a minimum of 3 shifts per month, with the ability to work both am and pm shifts
