Laboratory Aide (Part Time Day)

Antech Diagnostics, the largest exclusively commercial veterinary diagnostic laboratory in the nation, is in search of a Laboratory Aide working out of our San Francisco, California Laboratory and reporting directly to the Laboratory Manager. Provided a job offer is made and accepted, we are offering a one-time Signing Bonus of $1,000.00 [minus all applicable taxes]. 


Part Time Monday - Friday >  (2:00PM - 6:00PM)


As part of the VCA Family, which operates the largest network of freestanding, full-service animal hospitals in the nation, Antech Diagnostics delivers state of the art testing and consulting services to practicing veterinarians.  Our diagnostic spectrum of tests in the areas of chemistry, pathology, endocrinology, serology, hematology, and microbiology enhance veterinarians’ ability to detect, diagnose, evaluate and prevent disease and other conditions affecting animals.


The ideal candidate will be someone who is motivated to learn and grow.​  This position will be responsible for scanning samples into daily storage racks and scan test requests.

  • Receives and prepares samples for laboratory analyses.
  • Accurately process test requisitions per approved procedures.
  • Removes specimens from transport bags enter patient data, label samples and aliquot as needed for multiple testing.
  • Perform startup and required maintenance on analyzers (ADVIA, Cell dyn, Olympus etc.).
  • Scan samples into loads, and prepare for set up.
  • Accurately build and label Advia, Advia rerun, Atlas, CBC, UA and Chemistry loads.
  • Perform all required quality control per QA guidelines including all instrument maintenance and temperature charts.
  • Find missing specimens. Print and reconcile queue list.
  • Maintain organization of storage refrigerator.
  • Prepare samples for shipment to Main laboratory.
  • Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures.
  • Awareness of quality control and calibration.
  • Applies job skills and lab policies and procedures to complete a variety of tasks.
  • Reads, understands and follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.  Maintains clean and organized work area.  Restocks supplies as needed.
  • Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex Hematology tasks to learn through experience.  
  • May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, 2, 3 or 4 year degree in Science-related field preferred.
  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments a plus
  • General science background, including hematology/chemistry helpful. 
  • Must be reliable – attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Organized with ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Fair level of computer literacy preferred.
  • Positive, can-do attitude.
